The workshop will be an introduction to Excel. We will aim to explore five areas:
Using formulas
We will create a table from scratch and use formulas to do several basic calculations.
Making tables
We will format our table manually and using Autoformat.
Making graphs
We will use the Chart Wizard to make a chart from our table.
Working with a database (a bit more advanced)
We will organize the data in this file this file using Sort and AutoFilter.
Data merge (a bit more advanced)
We will merge the data from the previous file into this letter to personalize it.
Learning environment
Although this is a lot of material, the emphasis will be on going through it slowly- if we don't get to all five areas, so be it! Each person will be paired with a more experienced user, and there will be one floating trouble-shooter. If at any point you would prefer to go in a different direction, feel free!
We will be using the interactive Smartboard in Liffey's classroom. Want to know more about Smartboards in education? Click here.
Depending on your learning style, you may or may not want to take notes. Because this is on-site professional development, if you forget how to do something or would like to know more, you can always stop by later for a refresher or send me an email. With email questions, sometimes it is easiest to send a quick screencast. To make sure that you will be able to view an emailed screencast, click here and download the latest version of Flash Player if prompted.
